Which green mobile?


Handset manufacturers have been focused on reducing the carbon footprint of mobiles for some time with most firms offering to recycle old phones and starting to use recycled plastics in their manufacturing processes.

Yesterday, though, Sony Ericsson announced two new handsets – the C901 GreenHeart and Naite – that they are actively marketing as "green" alternatives. The major leap forward is not in the handset at all but its packaging. The new phones will use 90% less paper than previous models, partly as a result of being much lighter. Hard plastics used within the phones themselves will be recycled and they will come with low power chargers too. Read more in The Guardian
